Remaining states to gazette ruling for non-Muslim publications

KUALA LUMPUR: The four states which have yet to gazette a ruling prohibiting non-Muslim publications from using the word “Allah” will soon follow suit once the Conference of Rulers issues them a guideline on the matter. Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said Penang, the Federal Territory, Sabah and Sarawak would soon gazette the ruling as part of their state enactments on Islamic matters. “These four states are without rulers. Hence, Islam is under the King’s jurisdiction. It (gazetting of the ruling) will be done very soon. “They will follow the guidelines to be determined by the Conference of Rulers,” he told reporters after the national-level Maulidur Rasul celebration at Dataran Merdeka here yesterday. It was reported that action could be taken against non-Muslim publications, including the Catholic weekly The Herald in 10 states if they were found to be using four words related to Islam, which included “Allah.” Johor, Malacca, Negri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Kelantan, Tereng-ganu, Kedah, Perlis and Selangor have made the ruling part of their state enactments on Islamic matters. A fatwa had been issued to prohibit non-Muslim publications from using the words “Allah,” “Kaabah,” “Solat” and “Baitullah” in reading materials. The Catholic church has applied for a judicial review over the use of the word “Allah,” seeking to quash the decision of the Internal Security Minister (now Home Minister) in a letter on Feb 12, which imposed conditions on the publishing permit of The Herald.

Now my question is WHY? Fine, you can take away the word “Kaabah”, Solat and Baitullah, but surely “Allah”? Im sure many Muslims friends would agree with me. All my life here in KK, I have never came across any mumbo jumbo about any of my muslim family or friends who got ‘CONFUSED’ about the word “Allah”. “Allah” means GOD and GOD is one, no matter what religion. Islam spells love, peace, honor, justice, equality, respect and tolerance for all religions of GOD. I see NONE of that in what the government is doing now. What is that percentage of muslim extremist group they are trying to please compared to the minority religions in Malaysia anyway? Possibly this only happens in the west? Coz I sure don’t see any of this idiotical (is this actually a word?? Ehehe) mentality here.

Ironically, there is another article in the Star on the same day, here is part the article…

Uphold unity, solidarity
By JANE RITIKOS

KUALA LUMPUR: Unity and solidarity must not be taken lightly as they are crucial to developing a nation, said Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin.
The King said uniting communities must be a continuous process. He said this in his address at the national-level Maulidur Rasul celebration at Dataran Merdeka here yesterday. This year’s theme is “Unity as the catalyst for creating the best nation.” Tuanku Mizan said that when people become greedy and selfish, disasters would follow. He said Islam forbade misappropriation, abuse of power and discrimination but preached peace, equality and co-operation. The King urged Muslims to emulate Prophet Muhammad’s way of life, where unity and solidarity are emphasised in national development.

To outlaw the use of the word “Allah” for non-muslim is misappropriation and discrimination and not to mention disrespectful. He was quoted saying “when people become greedy and selfish, disasters would follow”. This new law/fatwah my friends, is the PERFECT example! Ruling that the word BELONGS to Islam and Islam alone is greedy and selfish and I will not be surprised if “DISASTER” will follow. How long has this word been used by non-muslims in Malaysia and there was never any issues with it, SO WHY SHOULD IT BE AN ISSUE NOW?! Yes, we the minority religions get it, Islam is the superior religion in Malaysia and we have no problem with it. But there is no need for stepping on toes and stabbing us to enforce it. Just because 10% expressed their concerns about confusions you have to piss the other 90% off?? Unity is the way forward and what the government is doing now is DIVIDING. Our leaders have always preached about UNITY and HARMONY. Bleh! Im sorry, maybe we Malaysians was so vain to see that they ACTUALLY meant unity and harmony within the Muslim community ONLY and NOT OUR NATION AS A WHOLE?? Please get off our toes and take the knife back, listen to the vast majority of Malaysians both Muslims and non Muslims, revoke that silly law to instil peace and harmony while you still can. You’ve just marred Malaysia in the eyes of the world…
